History of the knight of TURENNE

S panning on Limousin, Périgord and Quercy, Turenne's viscounty is one of the oldest and most important seigneuries of the South of France. Raymond de Turenne is a vassal of the count of Toulouse for Brassac's viscounty, Salignac's castles and Castelnau-Bretenoux. Furthermore, he marries the girl of the Lord of Séverac the Castle, seigneury that Pierre II of Aragon gives to him in fief. As a poet, he is the brother of the " three ladies of Turenne " sung by the troubadours. The attitude during the crusade against Albigeois is going to be particular. Having been a part of a mission which tries to convert Roger Trencavel, he participates in Tonneins's and Casseneuil's sieges rosen by with Arnaud Amaury, in Spain, to the victory of Las Navas de Tolosa, in 1209 . In 1213, Pierre II rewards him by giving lands near Palafrugell. In 1214, he helps Simon de Montfort during the second siege of Casseneuil then receives in fief the lands of his brother-in-law Bernard de Cazenac. He helps also Montfort to besiege Séverac the Castle, maybe to drive out his other brother-in-law Déodat. The last sign concerning him date back 1218, when the pope writes to him to ask no more help forthe opponents of the crusade.
